Smorgasbord was delighted to be able to hammer out the brand concept with Origin84's founder over a few late nights at Marrickville’s own Henson Park Hotel.
From the start it was clear that the identity had to signal that Origin84 were comfortable being technical, radical, and as obsessive with their presentation as their clients. The winning logo started with an ‘O’ for Origin and had its 3D linework painstakingly crafted into three different versions: small, medium and large, tailored for optimal online display. And the reference to 84? From 1984, a key date in Mac history. To see how it’s embedded in the brand, count the lines in the symbol.

For Christmas 2016.
Origin84's first Facebook campaign was inspired by a real-life admission from a systems engineer who used to work at another firm, servicing the IT needs of creative agencies: “Sometimes I felt like we were the fire fighters. But then sometimes I felt we were also the arsonists.” A horrifying scenario translated into an arresting ad. (Illustration: Blair Sayer.)
